Extract Embedded Images and Assets from Lottie Files

Your Lottie animations contain more than just vector paths – they often include embedded images, font references, and other assets. Our Lottie asset extractor scans your animation file and pulls out every embedded resource in seconds.

Whether you need to backup original images, reuse assets in other projects, or optimize file size by replacing compressed versions, this tool gives you instant access to everything inside your Lottie JSON.

How to Extract Assets from Lottie Animations

Lottie files often embed base64-encoded images and reference external fonts. Here's how to extract everything:

0

Upload your Lottie file

Drag and drop your .json or .lottie file. The tool supports both standard JSON and dotLottie formats.

1

Scan for embedded assets

The extractor automatically detects all embedded images (PNG/JPG) and lists font references with metadata.

2

Preview and inspect

View each image thumbnail, check dimensions, and see file sizes before downloading anything.

3

Download individually or bulk

Download single assets or grab everything at once as a ZIP archive with organized filenames.

All extraction happens in your browser. Your Lottie files and images never touch our servers.

Powerful Asset Extraction Features

Extract every type of embedded resource from your Lottie animations:

Embedded Images

Extract base64-encoded PNG and JPG images with original quality preserved. View dimensions and file size before downloading.

Font References

List all fonts used in your animation. See font family names and style information for proper installation.

Bulk Download

Download all assets at once as a convenient ZIP archive. Individual downloads also available for selective extraction.

Image Preview

See thumbnail previews of all extracted images before downloading. Verify you're getting the right assets.

Why Extract Assets from Lottie Files?

Asset extraction unlocks powerful workflows for designers and developers:

Reuse in Other Projects

Extract images and use them in different animations, presentations, or design projects without recreating them.

Backup Original Assets

Preserve source images before modifying animations. Useful when original asset files are lost or unavailable.

Optimize Asset Usage

Identify which images are embedded vs external. Optimize by compressing large images or converting formats before re-embedding.

Font Management

Get a complete list of required fonts for your animation. Ensure all team members have the necessary font files installed.

Asset Inventory

Audit animations for embedded content. Identify large images that should be optimized or replaced to reduce file size.

Version Control

Extract and version control image assets separately from animation JSON. Easier to track changes in image resources.

Asset Extraction Best Practices

Get the most out of extracted Lottie assets:

Check image quality

Extracted images maintain original quality. If images appear low-res, they were embedded that way – consider replacing with higher quality versions.

Optimize before re-embedding

Compress extracted images with tools like TinyPNG before adding them back to animations. Reduces overall file size significantly.

Install referenced fonts

Font extraction shows what's needed, but doesn't extract font files. You'll need to install fonts separately for text to render correctly.

Use bulk download for multiple assets

If your animation has 3+ images, use ZIP download instead of individual downloads. Saves time and keeps files organized.

Privacy and Security

We take your privacy seriously. Unlike most online converters that upload your files to remote servers, our tool processes everything locally.

No uploads – Your files are processed entirely in your browser. They never touch our servers.

No tracking – We don't log which files you convert or what settings you use.

No accounts – Use the tool immediately. No registration, no personal data required.

Inspect it yourself – Open DevTools and watch the network tab. You'll see zero file uploads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Lottie animations and our tools.

What assets can be extracted?

The extractor can pull embedded images (base64-encoded PNG/JPG), font references, and precomposition data. External image references are detected but cannot be downloaded as they exist outside the JSON file.

Why are some assets marked as "External"?

External assets are referenced by file path or URL but not embedded in the JSON. The tool can't extract them because the data isn't included in the file. You'll need to access these assets from their original source.

Can I extract assets from .lottie files?

Not directly. First convert your .lottie file to JSON using our DotLottie Converter tool, then use the Asset Extractor on the resulting JSON file.

What format are extracted images?

Images are extracted in their original format (PNG or JPG) as stored in the Lottie file. The tool preserves the exact image data without any conversion or quality loss.

Is my animation data secure?

Yes! All extraction happens in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to any server. The tool works completely offline once loaded.
