The Free Lottie Metadata Stripper Online

Exported Lottie files often embed your name, your tool, internal layer names and project comments. Our free metadata stripper removes that privacy-sensitive data while keeping the file readable and rendering exactly the same.

Unlike a minifier, this tool keeps the JSON pretty-printed — it is a privacy cleaner, not a compressor. Pick exactly what to remove, watch the live preview confirm nothing visual changed, and download a clean file. Everything runs locally in your browser.

How to Clean Metadata From a Lottie File

Stripping metadata by hand means hunting through nested JSON. This tool does it safely with one click each:

0

Upload your Lottie JSON file

Drag and drop or click to browse. We accept standard .json files up to 10MB. Detected metadata is counted automatically.

1

Pick what to remove

Toggle author/generator info, layer names, match names, comments, and (optionally) markers.

2

Preview — it renders unchanged

The live preview plays exactly as before, because only non-render metadata is removed.

3

Download the cleaned file

Save a readable, formatted Lottie JSON with the selected metadata stripped out.

No account, no server uploads — clean your file in seconds.

Key Features

Privacy-First Cleanup

Strip author names, generator tags, internal layer names and comments so nothing identifying ships inside your animation file.

Keeps It Readable

The output stays pretty-printed and human-readable — this is a privacy cleaner, not a minifier, so you can still inspect the file.

Selectable Options

Choose exactly what to remove with simple checkboxes. Markers are off by default since they can drive named-segment playback.

Live Preview Confirms No Change

The preview keeps playing identically while you strip metadata, so you can be sure the animation itself is untouched.

Popular Use Cases

Anonymize Before Sharing

Remove your name and tool tags before posting an animation publicly or sending it to a client.

Remove Internal Layer Names

Strip internal naming conventions and project codenames that you don’t want leaking inside a shipped file.

Strip Tool / Author Tags

Clear the generator and author metadata that animation tools embed during export.

Clean Client Deliverables

Hand off tidy, anonymous Lottie files without internal comments or naming baggage.

Prepare Open-Source Assets

Publish animation assets in a repo without exposing private author or organization details.

Reduce Leak Surface

Marketing and landing-page animations are public — strip anything you would not want inspected in their source.

Pro Tips

Keep markers if you use segments

If your player jumps to named markers, leave the marker option off so segment playback keeps working.

Pair with the Minifier for size

Strip metadata for privacy here, then run the Minifier if you also need the smallest possible file.

Names don’t affect playback

Layer and match names are purely for editors. Removing them never changes how the animation looks or plays.

Check the detected counts

The info panel shows how many names, markers and metadata fields were found, so you know what is being removed.

Privacy and Security

We take your privacy seriously. Unlike most online converters that upload your files to remote servers, our tool processes everything locally.

No uploads – Your files are processed entirely in your browser. They never touch our servers.

No tracking – We don't log which files you convert or what settings you use.

No accounts – Use the tool immediately. No registration, no personal data required.

Inspect it yourself – Open DevTools and watch the network tab. You'll see zero file uploads.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Lottie animations and our tools.

What metadata does this remove?

Optionally: the file’s author/generator info (the meta block), layer and shape names, match names (editor identifiers), comments, and timeline markers. You choose which to remove with checkboxes.

How is this different from the minifier?

The minifier shrinks the file by stripping whitespace (and some metadata) and outputs compact JSON. The metadata stripper focuses on privacy: it removes identifying metadata but keeps the JSON pretty-printed and readable.

Will removing names break my animation?

No. Layer names, match names, comments and author info are not used for playback, so the animation renders identically. The live preview confirms it.

Should I remove markers?

Only if you don’t use them. Markers can drive named-segment playback in some integrations, so this option is off by default.

Why remove metadata?

Exported Lottie files can embed your name, your tool, project comments and internal layer names. Stripping them protects privacy and avoids leaking internal naming before you ship a file.

Does it change colors, size, or timing?

No. Only non-render metadata fields are removed. Everything visual and temporal stays exactly the same.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The entire process happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your file never leaves your device.

Is it free?

Completely free, with no registration, watermarks, or usage limits.
